Google Assistant’s interpreter mode to the rescue

A lot of people who enjoy travelling to foreign countries have experienced the troubles of not being familiar with the local language. Being able to speak some of the world languages can certainly be helpful, for example, when you want to get a promo code for Coral online. But in real life, this not always true, especially in less touristy destinations, or In such situations, translation apps may come in handy.

One of the best known and widely used translation tools in the world is certainly Google Translate. It has more than 500 million users and it offers amazing features. However, this app is not the best thing that Google has to offer when it comes to translation. In fact, Google Assistant comes with an interpreter mode, which translates your conversations in real time. Until quite recently, this mode was available only on Google smart speakers, which is not very convenient when travelling. From December 12, this mode is available on iOS and Android phones, too.

How to use the interpreter mode on smartphones

It is very easy to use this mode on your smartphone as it is built into Google Assistant. All you need to do is open Google Assistant and tell it that you need something translated. You can use phrases such as “Be my French translator” or “Help me speak German”. You can even specify the language afterwards by simply saying “Turn on interpreter mode”. If it happens that you cannot find this feature, do not worry because Assistant will take you to it.

When in interpreter mode, Google Assistant will listen for speech whenever it can hear something and it will try to translate it instantly in the language that you choose. When you want to say something in the chosen language, Assistant will transcribe that for you and will help you have a conversation with someone even if you don’t speak a single word of their language. It can also suggest some replies from time to time.

If you keep your device close to the other person, you will be able to make a conversation without any delays because Assistant will translate for both of you. When you use Assistant the text will appear on the screen, but you can change it so the translation is spoken out loud.

Travellers’ must-have

This fantastic app is a must for everyone who wants to travel and does not speak the local language spoken in the place they want to visit or any foreign languages. By using this app you will not only help yourself and save a lot of time you would spend trying to get the necessary information,  but others will be thankful as well as they will not have to go through all the trouble explaining something to you in a foreign language.
